Dear Parents & Students:

Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year! I hope you had a peaceful, restful summer

filled with good times and are now ready to begin the hard work of education

and formation. Included in this newsletter is a variety of information concerning

the beginning of the school year and the various schedules, activites, and requirements.

Please take a few minutes to look through all of this information.

There have been a number of staff changes over the summer so some new faces

will be present. You may have seen the announcement of Mr. Long's departure.

Mr. Crossley, Ms. Addison, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Samaha, Mrs. Cook (the counselor),

Mr. Lambright, Mr. Attaway, and Ms. Young have all left Kelly HS for a variety of

reasons.

Mrs. Mahan is joining us in the English Dept. She is a native of Vidor who

taught at Vidor HS for a few years but is coming to us from South Carolina where

she has been teaching for five years.

Mr. Rice and Ms. Vernon will be joining the Science Dept. Mr. Rice is a veteran

teacher with many years of experience in a number of schools. He will also

be helping with coaching. Ms. Vernon is a young and energetic teacher who grew

up in mid-county.

Mr. Hanks will be in the Social Studies Dept. after teaching in public

schools in the Southeast Texas area. Mr. Hanks will also assume some coaching

duties.

Mrs. Harris will join the Religion Dept. She has been involved in youth ministry

and education in parishes in the Diocese of Beaumont for a number of years.

Many will recognize our new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director,

Mr. Hartsfield. He comes to us after ten years of experience at St. Anne.

Mrs. Barclay, not the same Mrs. Barclay some will remember from English

tutoring last year, will take over the Drama efforts. She has worked in Drama in

schools and community theater for many years.

Mrs. Hillin is our full-time counselor. She comes to us a??er experience as a

counselor at Westbrook HS in BISD.

Mr. Reid will fill the newly created position of Asst. Principal for Curriculum

and Instruction. He comes to us after many years of administrative experience in

public schools in our area.

In addition we have new volleyball coaches, who have already begun work with the

volleyball program. The head coach is Kaci Brewer. With a new Athletic Director

there may be some coaching changes in other sports, as well.

That is currently being reviewed.

A huge thank you to Mr. Walter Umphrey who gave Kelly HS a wonderful

donation which

allowed us to repave the large parking lot just outside the café. When you

come to Kelly you can't miss it! Over the next few days and weeks, whether you

are an adult or a student, please try to make the new members

of our school community, both adults and students, feel welcome and loved. As a

community rooted in the love of our God and Savior there is no place for

initiations or hazing, even if it is only meant "in fun". Although these

rites of passage may be commonplace in our world, our faith and belief in God calls us

to a higher expectation of behavior. If we truly value an environment of love and

caring, each of us must do our part to contribute to it.

I hope all of you enjoy the last few days of summer vacation and are ready for

a productive and blessed new

year!
